Pokemon Picross ROM

Pokemon Picross is a canceled puzzle game in the Pokémon series originally planned to be released for the Game Boy and the Game Boy Color. It was announced in Japanese magazines in 1999, but it was never released or mentioned again for unknown reasons. This is a translation for the build of the unreleased Pokémon Picross for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color that surfaced on the internet in September 2020.

The patch is complete, the entire story, the title screen, the tutorials, the menus, and the puzzle names are all done, and even the Game Boy Printer error messages have been translated. The game is easy to navigate and play even with no translation, as long as the player is already familiar with nonogram rules.

Pokémon Picross follows the typical format of nonogram puzzles, in which players must use numbers depicted on a grid to determine which sections to fill and not fill in. In this game, a twist is added in which, when a puzzle is completed, players are rewarded with a Pokémon based on the puzzle they cleared. These Pokémon can be set before starting a puzzle and can utilize various abilities based on their type.

For example, Electric-type Pokémon can slow down the levels’ timer, while Fire-types can automatically fill in certain areas of the grid in a cross-shape pattern. Each Pokémon has a cooldown period after their ability is used, and their ability may be limited to grids under a certain size, anywhere from 10×10 to 20×15 (the smallest and largest Pokémon puzzle sizes respectively).
