Description

As a huge fan of Pokémon ROM hacks and a Final Fantasy fan, I’ve often searched for a Pokémon ROM that would allow you to capture and battle with Final Fantasy characters and monsters instead of Pokémon. Unfortunately, I never found one, so I decided to make one myself. A Final Fantasy Themed Hack of FireRed. Goals

  • Replace more than 200 Pokémon with monsters/characters/chimeras from Final Fantasy games (from I to X-2 for the moment) and make it possible to obtain them obviously. The replacements concern all elements modifiable with YAPE, as well as the combat sprites and miniatures. On the other hand, I do not intend to modify the cries or the footprints visible in the Pokedex for v1.
  • Replace more than 280 attacks with attacks from the Final Fantasy universe, while keeping the basic animations (for some, it is just a name change).
  • Change the types and the effectiveness table between the types
  • Modify the list of TMs
  • Modify the teams of all trainers in the game.
  • Modify some texts in the game
  • Replace, on the world map, Snorlax with a monster from Final Fantasy (either Fat Chocobo or Cait Sith (FFVII), I have not decided yet).
  • Replace or remove the legendary Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos and Mewtwo.
  • Finally, the main objective is to have a playable and functional ROM, even if it is not necessarily very pretty. I am bad at graphics and it is not what excites me the most, so I mainly put the gameplay first, because what interests me is this strategic part with the new monsters and the new types, which change the game quite a bit.

Known Bugs

  • The CLAIRVOYANCE attack is useless for the moment. There is no longer a SPECTRE type. I know I can put any relationship after the type table in HXD to do what I want with this attack, but I haven’t figured out what to do with it yet.

Changelog

V0.49

  • 78 Pokémon replaced by FF monsters/characters
  • Advancement of the demo to the end of Azuria (you can go to the underground leading to Carmin/Sea, invisible walls prevent you from crossing the underground)
  • Big modification of the type relationships:
    https://image.ibb.co/dUhXq9/table_types_v5.png
  • Added new Pokémon
  • Modification of certain wild monsters
  • In certain areas, there will now be a 1% chance of encountering a monster MUCH stronger than the others, forcing the player to flee most of the time. For the moment, this is the Giant Worm of Mount Lunar and the Adamantai route 24.
  • The Ultrasound technique becomes Beast type again instead of Robot type

V0.40

  • Game is playable until the end of Mount Lunar (rocks prevent you from leaving because the rest has not been done)
  • 63 Pokémon replaced by Final Fantasy monsters/characters, but not all of them are yet obtainable or encountered in this demo.
  • Fixed the tempetesable bug on DIST type
  • Replacement of the SWARM talent with an “EAGLE EYE” talent which boosts the power of DIST attacks if the user has less than 1/3 of his life.

V0.31

  • This first playable demo ends just before entering Mount Lunar. I placed a rock in front of the cave entrance to block you, as I haven’t changed the trainers and wild Pokémon after that.
  • The entire Pallet Town section up to the end of Route 3 is therefore functional, which is ultimately very short but will give you an idea of the principle of the game and the objectives.
  • While some things may change, it should still be assumed that most of the early part of the game will not change (except for corrections/readjustments).
