Description

Fire Emblem – Hetja’s Quest is a roguelite-style romhack of FE8. It follows the story of Hetja, a long-dead being with a sense of purpose so strong that they defy death itself in search of their dear old grandmother. Navigate an ever-changing labyrinth, challenge and recruit strong foes, bolster your strengths with custom weapons and abilities, all to take on a great and powerful evil.

The largest chunk of content within this romhack is experienced by doing “runs” of the labyrinth. The idea behind each run is to take one unit and raise their attributes, through leveling or interacting with various events, to take on a “Final Boss” from throughout FE’s history. Each playable character has their own set of strengths and weaknesses, based (somewhat) faithfully on their original FE introductions. The labyrinth contains an arrangement of procedurally selected interactable event nodes, as well as areas dedicated to providing specific information.

Off the Beaten Path is the hub area of the hack. This is where you will be sent inbetween runs. Here you have the opportunity to interact with a variety of facilities, each with a beneficial property to aid you in future runs. All facilities are unlocked from the beginning of the game, and most can be upgraded in various ways. Traversal of the map is done with a hybrid of menu-based events and FreeMovement.

Known Bugs

  • Capture does not halve magic
  • Some songs do not loop
  • Dread Fighter uses sword animations for axes
  • Some magic animations kill the bgm
  • Songs sometimes overlap, can be fixed by turning off + on music in the in game settings
  • Fog looks a little janky on certain labyrinth tileset palettes

  • Chest Event Rework – Replaces chest event with 20+ run progression specific events (similar concept to Slay the Spire Question Mark events)

  • Unit Personal Abilities – Special callable events that provide various beneficial effects
