Every single Pokémon is obtainable on one save file, and the game includes numerous quality-of-life updates like running shoes, infinite TMs, and fixed bugs.

Description

Pokemon Crystal Awakening is a complete tileset overhaul of Pokémon Crystal, reimagining the Johto and Kanto regions with the visual style of the Game Boy Color Zelda games (Link’s Awakening and the Oracle games). While the story remains true to the original, the gameplay experience is enhanced with an expanded Kanto, restored dungeons, and tougher trainer battles. Every single Pokémon is obtainable on one save file, and the game includes numerous quality-of-life updates like running shoes, infinite TMs, and fixed bugs. This hack is a beautiful and polished way to re-experience Generation 2.

Features

  • Overhauled overworld and interior graphics, alongside some UI elements.
  • Tweaked trainer teams, namely harder rosters for important trainers, such as Gym Leaders.
  • An expanded Kanto, with restored dungeons, more trainers, and more items.
  • More sensible Pokémon distribution (as seen here), and more generous HM compatibility.
  • Every Pokémon available on one save file, and all room decorations can be bought or are gifted to you.
  • Fixed off-model Pokémon sprites. Palettes were also improved for a good amount of Pokémon.
  • Some QOL features, like “Running Shoes” (works by holding down B), and an automatic Repel reuse message.
  • Fixed bugs and glitches.
  • The Celebi event, now restored! To get it, simply head to Goldenrod’s Pokémon Center after beating the League.

  • Added more dialogue and flavor to a handful places in Johto and Kanto.
  • Changed the special “tree” palette so it blends in better.
  • Fixed incorrect tile reload when using Cut in tall grass.
  • Fixed vanilla issue where the Charcoal Kiln apprentice has an inconsistent overworld palette.
  • Fixed the Goldenrod link receptionist being visible chilling in the void, far to the right.
  • Fixed changeblock issue in Burned Tower B1F.
  • Fixed an event flag issue with the Dragon’s Den twins.
  • Fixed the Pewter City storybook so it always prints the “Read which tale?” string when on the chapter list.
  • Fixed Medium Bethany being able to phase through a rock.
  • Fixed a dialogue crash tied to the Hiker in Saffron’s Pokémon Center.
  • Adjusted the player’s position in the Mt.Moon rival cutscene.
  • Added a new floor to the Pewter City Museum. This is now where the player obtains the Silver Wing.
  • Made it so the Scientists allied with Team Rocket also use the new Rocket battle transition.
  • Made it so the Coin Case is available in Celadon if the player didn’t grab it in the Goldenrod Underground.
  • Changed the reward for the Lake of Rage record-sized Magikarp event.
