Custom Tools & Engine Improvements

Pokémon Grey is built using a suite of custom-made Gen 1 tools that dramatically expand what the original Red version can do. These tools allow for fully new maps, graphics, events, and gameplay systems without needing a full disassembly.

• Map Connection Editor – Lets us create entirely new world layouts with proper map transitions, new routes, and a seamless overworld structure.
• Gen 1 Sprite Importer – Allows inserting brand-new Pokémon and trainer sprites while preserving 2bpp accuracy and Game Boy hardware limits.
• Gen 1 Text Editor – Enables rewriting all NPC dialogue, signs, item descriptions, and event text with zero pointer corruption.
• Trainer Class Renamer – Lets the hack feature new trainer archetypes and characters unique to Pokémon Grey.
• GEN1 Town Map Editor – Complete overhaul of the Town Map: new region layout, new city markers, accurate fly-points, and custom map art.
• GEN1 Tile Editor – Used to create new environmental graphics like custom forests, cliffs, snowy areas, buildings, and decor tiles.
• Oak & PC Intro Editor – Modifies the opening sequence and PC item lists, giving Grey a completely original introduction and starting inventory.
• Outdoor Minisprite Editor – Adds new overworld character sprites and animations for NPCs unique to the region.
• Flying Position Editor – Ensures all Fly destinations drop the player at newly-positioned landmarks in the redesigned region.
• Town Map Position Editor – Correctly aligns map icons, city positions, and player indicators to match the brand-new region layout.
