Description

This is Pokémon Haneru, my first ROM hack ever. It was a solo project that I have worked on for about a month and a half so far. Are there errors? A few graphical errors and some bugs for sure but nothing that should completely break the game. It is my first ROM hack that I made from “scratch”. It’s based on a HUBOL rom and I used HMA to edit and add in many of the features like ASM routines, etc. I’ve always been a fan of ROM hacks that offered a more vanilla story but with quality-of-life features.

With that being said, I also wanted this game to feature something I enjoy the most about Pokémon: team building. This game is harder than a vanilla game but I wouldn’t say it’s as difficult as something like Radical Red. Every trainer and gym leader will have IVs and EVs. The AI is supposed to be better than a vanilla game but it can still be easily exploited. You are still highly encouraged to use different Pokémon when you play.

There is an optional level cap that can be turned on or off at the player’s house (upstairs) and in every Pokémon Center location (upstairs). Why play this game instead of other ROM hacks such as Radical Red, etc? Well, you’re not forced to but if you like more vanilla experiences like myself with QoL features, then hopefully you will like it. This game was my first ROM hack that I made from “scratch”.

I did try to play through and test gym leaders and comps as I went through the game with the level caps, etc. I tried my best to make sure no flags I set or created lock the player or cause the game to crash. However, it’s very possible I may have missed a few. Nonetheless, the game should be playable and completable. As of now, the post game only has the Kanto Gym Leaders on Seven Island available to be battled as much as you like with an option of Singles or Doubles format.

  • Optional Level Cap

    • Repels are SUPER cheap. I hate random encounters sometimes.

  • DexNav (Obtained before Viridian Forest)
  • Generation 6 Exp. Share (Obtained before Viridian Forest)
    • Is an “Item” and can be toggled ON/OFF. If turned OFF, it can be held by a Pokemon so it has the vanilla game effect.
  • New Key Items
    • PC Caller: Access Pokémon storage box from anywhere. (Obtained in Vermilion City where the Old Rod fisherman NPC used to live. I made it to encourage people to change teams on the go as well.)

  • Nature colored stats
  • IVs/EVs can be displayed from summary screen (BW style)
  • IV Changer NPC (Celadon City)

    • Hidden Power – BP 80, 15PP
    • Etc.
  • Changes to some Pokémon’s typings
    • Meganium: Grass -> Grass/Fairy
    • Feraligatr: Water -> Water/Dark
    • Absol: Dark -> Dark/Fairy
    • Milotic: Water -> Water/Fairy

    • Etc.
  • BST modifications/buffs and type modifications to various Pokémon
    • A lot of Pokémon have access to Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, other omni boosts, and hopefully better movepools.
  • Probably more stuff I missed

Future Stuff

  • Eventually, I would like to eventually add Dynamax Raid battles and I have already tried adding it. However, I am also picky about how and where to place the dens, etc. It’s still a work in progress.
  • Add the gym leaders from Johto into the game.
  • Fix Calyrex Ice Rider and Shadow Rider abilities and give them their signature moves
  • Fix Zacian and Zamenzeta form changes with Rusted Sword/Rusted Shield
  • Fix Regieleki and Regidrago abilities
  • Improve my knowledge of scripting to make the game more interactive and alive. Right now, the game is okay and playable but it can also have so much more. I literally learned most of this in a few weeks and tried my best to implement some of the current features. It’s messy in some areas and can be polished.
  • I would also love to hear feedback from those who tried this game to see what can be improved or changed. I have all the documentation ready but I want to make it a bit cleaner
