This is a project that I’ve thought about for years, so this week I sat down and figured it all out. This my release of a hypothetical “Pokémon Green”, combining the aspects of both Japanese Pokémon Green and Blue that got left on the cutting room floor in the making of our international versions of Pokémon Red & Blue. So it’s namesake and visuals come from Jp Green, along with the Pokémon sprites, overworld tileset, slot machine graphics, and layout for Cerulean Cave.
I never realized how much the overworld tiles had changed; mainly the freshly mowed stripped grass and the perfectly square windows. (Did YOU Know? Pokémon Green had it’s own exclusive Super GameBoy palette that got left behind? It seems Jp Blue was built off of Red, and then they forgot about it when making Red & Blue, just reusing the same one twice. Every town across Kanto had their colors slightly shifted from normal. Cinnabar Island almost got off clean, except the background shade of white has been changed across the board.)
