Description

This is my first ROM hack. I essentially taught myself how to do everything involved from working on this. It began as jotting down ideas for what I’d like to see in Yellow, back in the lockdown era of 2021, and evolved from there. The bulk of the work has been since 2024, off and on.

Features

Pokémon

  • All 151 Pokémon are available in this game in some form or another. That is to say: most are catchable, some are in-game event only, some are only by evolution, and so on. A complete Pokédex is possible.
  • Trade evolution has been removed. The four Pokémon who evolve by trade now evolve by item. In addition, two other evolutions have been modified.
  • 46 Pokémon have had their stats modified, including your starter Pikachu. 22 Pokémon have had their type(s) modified.
  • All Pokémon have had their level-up move lists updated and can learn 10-12 attacks via level-up. In addition, TM compatibility has been increased across the board.

Trainers

  • While it is not by any means mandatory to adhere to such, all trainers in the game have been leveled around caps. These caps are noted in brackets in the documentation below.
  • Enemy trainers have been reworked to be (generally) tougher than in Yellow, including the addition of unused trainers from the existing game data dispersed throughout. They gradually become tougher as the game progresses.
  • Level scale has been increased, with the Elite Four being 90+ in level and post-game trainers (newly added) reaching high 90s/100.
  • Gyms are now fought in a different order. The first gym is not fought until a few hours into the game, with its levels in the 30s.
  • Trainer variety has been increased. All Pokémon in the game – with the exception of Pikachu – appear on an enemy team at least once, and none are fought more than about 15 times total.
  • A second, optional rival has been added. This rival can be battled six times throughout the game.

Other

  • Several of the existing game maps have been changed. Reasons range from scenery updates to mandatory encounters to additional areas revisited later.
  • Various quirks and glitches of gen 1 have been modified/updated or removed.
  • Trainer AI has been improved as much as I am currently capable of making it.
  • Several key items have been removed and replaced by new key items. A significant one is the Level Up, received optionally on Route 2, which replaces the Rare Candy.
  • Most moves have had type, base power, PP, accuracy, and/or effect changes. A new move, Sun Beam, has been added in place of Bubble.
  • Seven of the 15 types have been modified.
  • HM04 has been moved to a new location, as its use is now required in additional areas earlier in the game than Fuchsia City.
  • 10 of the 50 TMs have been changed to different moves.

Changelog

V1.5.1

  • Added an encounter table to Pewter City, with five possible wild Pokémon.

V1.5.0

V1.4.1

  • Based on player feedback, adjusted the level of Rival’s starter in the first battle to Lv7 instead of Lv10.
  • Updated Route 1 encounter table levels.
  • Slight change in Route 2 trainer levels to mitigate grinding a little more.
  • Updated level-up lists for Clefairy and Jigglypuff.
