Description

Pokemon FireRed – Bills Secret Garden DX is a Vanilla+ rom hack for FireRed. The namesake feature of this hack is a new garden area accessed from a teleporter in Bill’s house. Here, you will find Pokémon from the GS Spaceworld Beta that were cut from the original Gold & Silver versions! In addition to that, there are many other changes to make the experience more interesting.

Features

  • Many new Pokémon added to the base FireRed experience, including:
  • Any evolutions, regional forms, paradox forms, convergent species, etc. related to the original 386 Pokémon.
  • 44 cut Pokémon, mostly from Gen 2 with a few from other generations.
  • The Mega Evolutions for Sableye, Mawile, and Chimecho have been changed to standard evolutions.
  • Special forms, such as Partner Eevee and Cosplay Pikachu.
  • And a few more surprises!
  • Encounter tables have been updated so nearly all Pokémon are catchable before the Elite Four.
  • Trainer teams have been updated to take advantage of the newly available Pokémon. While this isn’t intended as a difficulty hack, this does mean some trainers will naturally be harder than the base game.
  • Move Tutors, IV Maximizers, Nature Mints, EV Berries, and more have been implemented for easy training.

Useful Tips

  • Most PokéMarts have been given a second vendor that sells items like special Pokéballs and type-boosting items.
  • Many new items have been placed all over, so be sure to search everywhere for powerful TMs and Evolution Items.
  • There are new Move Tutors all over the region, with some pretty powerful moves. Look out for Ace Trainers in towns and other unexpected locations!
  • Bill’s Garden is split into two sections with different encounters. Be sure to come back throughout your journey once you have new HMs or Rods.
  • Valuable items can be stolen with Thief. Wild Aipom often hold Lucky Eggs, while Meowth and Persian hold high-priced treasures.
  • Many new vendors selling useful items have been added all over:
  • Pewter City (Outside Mart) – Status Cure Berries
  • Celadon Mansion Roof – Berries and Mints
  • Fuchsia City (Fisherman’s House) – Evolution and Held items
  • Saffron City (Trainer Fan Club) – Held items
  • Two Island Stand – Evolution and Held items
  • Three Island (House) – Incense
  • Indigo Plateau – Powerful Held items
  • Five Island – Type-Boost Gems
  • The Department Store now sells almost all Pokéball types and all Evolution Stones.
  • The Good Rod has been moved to Lavender Town.
  • A Move Reminder and Egg Move Tutor can be found in Fuchsia City.
  • An IV Tutor can be found in the Cinnabar Lab, offering to maximize a Pokémon’s IVs for a price.
  • The new Pokémon Raika, Enta, and Suica can evolve into the Legendary Beasts using an item tied to Ho-oh. However, it may be best to wait until at least level 42 to evolve them.
  • Most Legendary Pokémon can be caught before the Elite Four.
  • The Mystic Ticket can be found on the Sevii Islands before the Elite Four, but can’t be activated until the Post-Game.
  • The Aurora Ticket can be found on the Sevii Islands in the Post-Game.
  • “Super Boss” Trainers have been added to Seven Island. These Trainers have competitive-level teams in the mid-90s.

Known Bugs

  • There is sometimes some input delay in battle screens that require a choice, such as learning a new move or the nickname prompt. Seems to be an issue with the engine that couldn’t be resolved.
  • Due to some field moves, like Fly, being usable without the Pokemon actually knowing the move, a Pokemon can sometimes have access to five or more field moves at a time. If this occurs, the menu will be bugged and seemingly soft-lock. This can be exited by choosing one of the top available options. Change up the Pokemon’s moves to resolve.
  • The map sprite for the roaming legendary that appears after beating the League is broken and shows the wrong Pokemon.
  • Due to some back-end issues, there are a few issues with the PokeDex. First, the Regional Dex couldn’t be rearranged, so it has blank entries for all the unobtainable Pokemon. The National Dex shows the proper Dex order. Second, completion of the National Dex isn’t acknowledged by Oak or the Game Freak Director.
  • There are some minor graphical issues in the background when making purchases from the rooftop shops in Celadon Mansion.

Changelog

V2.0

  • Previously, Legends Arceus and Gen9 content wasn’t implemented correctly. Now, most moves, abilities, and items are correctly added. This includes Nature Mints!
  • Several new Pokemon, forms, and moves have been added.
  • Multi-Move Tutors are now implemented, allowing for a much larger pool of moves to be available. You’ll find these NPCs in a variety of places!
  • Some evolution methods have been changed to require a Pokemon to hold an item and reach a certain level. This primarily applies to the Scarlet and Violet Gem items and their associated evolutions, though there are a few others.
  • Exp Share now has Exp All properties. It can be turned on or off from the Key Items menu. I had wanted to keep both versions implemented, but technical limitations got in the way…
  • Due to changes to the Exp Share, trainer battles have been rebalanced under the assumption that it is being used. The balance of this hasn’t been tested as much as I would like, so feedback regarding this would be appreciated.
  • Additional shops sell new items, primarily from Gen 9.
  • An Egg Move tutor has been added in Fuchsia City.
  • Due to a technical limitation, the Safari Zone has been changed to a standard area. The “Safari Game” has been removed.
  • The locations of some Pokemon have been changed. Most notably, the Beta Starters are no longer in Bill’s Garden, instead being given as gifts from NPCs, inspired by Yellow Version.
  • A new location, Amarillo Grove, has been added near the fence maze on Route 14. Here, you can meet a special NPC!
  • Shiny odds increased.
  • EV yield on Power items increased to 12.
  • Evo items that must be held for Pokemon to evolve are no longer consumed on evolution.
  • The move Sky Attack has been changed to a single turn “Jump Kick” like move.
  • The Stick/Leek item should now work for all Farfetch’d evolutions.
  • Super Bosses now prompt for a battle, rather than immediately starting one.
  • EV & IV viewer is now a key item, found in the Viridian Trainer School.
  • Many more small changes that I’m probably forgetting…
