Ten years to the day of the release of Pokémon Throwback comes its sequel! Pokémon Revelation is a vanilla quality-of-life enhancement decompilation hack of Pokémon Emerald. There’s a wealth of other QoL Emerald hacks out there now, so that poses the question:
The goal of Pokémon Revelation is to include as many QoL features from recent games as possible while still looking and feeling like vanilla Emerald and remaining compatible with the official games. There may be hacks with more exotic visual flair or more involved features, but none will feel or be as true to the original game as this one. Or, at least, that’s my intention! Features added to the game will retain a similar appearance to the base game, and new or modified text/events will adhere to the intent of Emerald and the official games. Check out Revelation if you want a hack that is similar to Emerald but better!
What about the game’s plot? A small change has been made to a portion of that. But you’ll have to find out for yourself! Or simply be a keen reader.
Pokemon Revelation comes jam-packed with a ton of features. As a decomp hack, more advanced features and techniques are possible, and the author has taken good advantage of that!
A cavalcade of improvements have been introduced for obtaining items, as well as using and managing them.
The usage and obtaining of various moves have been improved greatly, HM or otherwise:
- Add Hyper Training via the Expert at the Battle Frontier Exchange Service Corner, upper right corner; 25 BP for each stat.
- Hyper-trained stats will have their stat names displayed in gold when using the Judge function.
- New shade of gold also applied to gold stars for stats with 31 IVs. Note: This doesn’t affect Hidden Power.
- Add Ability Capsules, purchaseable for 50 BP at the Exchange Service Corner, 2nd lady from the right.
- Called “Ability Cap” ingame due to character limits.
- New item added to the game replaces Oak’s Parcel from FireRed/LeafGreen to prevent immediate removal by PKHeX.
- Pokémon will still use their standard Ability in link battles for summary screen consistency in Multi Battles.
- Add Nature switching lady to the Exchange Service Corner for 50 BP, now at the center of the booth.
- This only affects the stat changes of your Pokémon’s Nature, not the Nature itself.
- Stat changes only applied/BP only spent if selection will have an effect on chosen Pokémon.
Implement learned moves on evolution at arbitrary levels.
Moves learned by Pokémon on evolution are based on what moves are learned on evolution in later games.
Enemy Pokémon will still know the expected moves at a given level.
Stop learning a new move if you select “no” or press the B button on the first prompt.
Implement move info window to battles.
Move info window can be toggled with the R button, text size determined by if P/S/S split is enabled.
Show type effectiveness in battle.
Key: Green = super effective, red = not very effective, gray = no effect.
Status moves and attacking moves that don’t strictly follow standard typing are all accounted for.
Type effectiveness is only shown if you’ve registered the opposing Pokémon to your Pokédex.
Weather Ball now shows its type (and matching type effectiveness) in battle.
Pokémon stats are now recalculated at the end of each battle so that gained EVs can impact them even if not leveling up.
Pokémon at Lv. 100 can now receive EVs from battle if they don’t already have 510 total EVs.
Pokémon currently in battle will receive Exp. first when defeating an opposing Pokémon.
Pokémon not in battle will only have one collective message display when receiving Exp. in Easy mode (via modern Exp. Share).
Allow items to be swapped between two Pokémon in the party menu.
[*]Reduce number of Egg cycles needed to hatch an Egg by 1.
Scott gives you the Exp. Charm when you first get to the Battle Frontier.
The effects of the Exp. Charm apply to all saves where the player has received the initial BPs from Scott.

Implement nicknaming outsider Pokémon under specific circumstances.
The outsider Pokémon must be unnicknamed, come from the same language origin game (English), and not a fateful encounter.
Restore change case feature (toggle with the R button) on naming screen from Japanese versions of Gen III games.
Increase base BP rewards for completing a round at a Battle Frontier facility by 5.
Beating a Frontier Brain will also now give a +15 BP bonus instead of +10.
Players will receive their lifetime BP earnings back as a one-time compensation for the increase in BP rewards.
Prices of items and services at the Battle Frontier have been adjusted to match Gen VIII standards.
Frontier Brain appearances at the Battle Pike and Battle Pyramid tweaked.
Lucy now appears every 4th round. Silver battle is at the end of Round 4, Gold battle at the end of Round 8.
Brandon’s Silver battle occurs at the end of Round 5 instead of Round 3.
Overhaul in-game trades, swap out Game Corner prize Pokémon to make them all legal.
Ruby/Sapphire OT names, genders reverted to their vanilla Ruby/Sapphire selves.
Kanto Pokémon trades: Farfetch’d for Volbeat, Lickitung for Pikachu, Jynx for Gardevoir, Mr. Mime for Chimecho.
All Kanto Pokémon have identical data to their FireRed/LeafGreen counterparts.
Game Corner Pokémon: Eevee, Dratini, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Porygon.

Implement ipatix’s High Quality Audio Mixer and upgrade the game’s sample-based audio.
Audio samples used across all music tracks in the game have been significantly improved.
Cries for all Kanto and Johto Pokémon have been increased to 31536 Hz sampling frequency.
Please note that the game’s file size will increase to 32 MB after patching.
Play “Evolved” jingle when catching Pokémon in the Hoenn Dex, like in most other Pokémon games (including Ruby/Sapphire).
Pokémon only in the National Pokédex will still play the “Pokémon Caught” jingle from FireRed/LeafGreen when caught.
Shorten evolution scene. All visual aspects are still present and have been retimed to still match the evolution music.
