Description

The main focus of Pokemon Scorched Earth is the creation of the Earth type by combining the current rock and ground types. It is mainly based on MandJTV’s video If Pokémon had an Earth Type.

Features

  • Rock and Ground have been removed from the game, and have been replaced with a single Earth type.
  • The starters have been changed to Cubone, Rhyhorn, and Sandshrew.
  • Giovanni is now a Normal-type gym leader, with all of his teams, including Rocket Boss fights, being updated to match this. His gym trainers have also been updated.

The Earth Type

The Earth type is a combination of both the Rock and Ground types that exist in Pokemon. With this addition, these types have been removed from the game, and all Pokemon that were rock or Ground type (or both) are now Earth type. All Rock and Ground moves are also Earth type, and therefore, some interactions do not make complete sense (i.e. rock throw not being able to hit flying types). However, I believe that adding the ability for such moves as rock throw, rock tomb, and rock slide to hit flying types would take a bit away from the purpose of adding the Earth type.

Type Effectiveness

OFFENSIVE:
2x (Super Effective): Electric, Fire, Poison, Bug
1/2x (Not Very Effective): Grass, Water, Earth
0x (No Effect): Flying

Defensive:
2x (Super Effective): Water, Grass, Ice
1/2x (Not Very Effective): Poison, Normal, Fire
0x (No Effect): Electric

Changes from FireRed

  • User’s PC item
  • The item in the user’s PC storage has been replaced with an EXP share for convenience.
  • Starter Pokemon
  • The three starter Pokemon are now Cubone, Rhyhorn, and Sandshrew. They have been buffed to each have a Normal type move with 70 power at lvl 5 so the rival fight is not impossible to win. These moves are Headbutt, Horn Attack, and Slash respectively.
  • Rival’s Pokemon
  • The new starter choices have effected your rival’s teams as well, giving them Sandshrew, Cubone, or Rhyhorn respective to the starter you chose. They keep this pokemon throughout the game, evolving at the appropriate level, with the exception of the rival having a Rhydon at level 40 if you picked Sandshrew. Their other Pokemon stay mostly the same, with the exception of their Rhydon being replaced so that they have all 3 “starter replacement Pokemon” (Gyarados, Exeggutor, and Arcanine). The champion rematch teams are different, however, with their starter replacing Tyranitar (to prevent type overlap) and them keeping the starter they would have had if you played normally (Charizard if you picked Cubone, Blastoise if you picked Rhyhorn, and Venusaur if you picked Sandshrew).
  • Wild Pokemon
  • As a compensation for not choosing an orginal Kanto starter in this game, they have been added as wild encounters to the following locations:
  • Bulbasaur – Viridian forest (walking)
  • Charmander – Route 24 & 25 (walking)
  • Squirtle – Route 12 (Good Rod fishing)
  • PokeMart Changes
  • You can now purchase Rare Candies from the Viridian City PokeMart for ₽5 each.
  • Gym Pokemon
  • Brock is now an Earth type gym leader, though his team is the same, with Geodude and Onix now being pure Earth type.
  • Giovanni is now a normal type gym leader, and his teams throughout the game have been changed to reflect this, using a variety of Kanto normal types. His gym trainers have also been changed, with the exception of the Black Belt trainers still sporting fighting types.
  • Story Changes
  • The story is the same, with the only changes being pokemon used by enemy trainers, which has already been mentioned.
