Description

After creating time, space, and everything that a world needs for its existence, Arceus created Mew in order to populate the universe. Mew could split itself into two, creating more and more life forms, but Arceus wanted more variety. Therefore, Arceus created the Unown species as well. The Unown’s waves, combined in various ways, transformed Mew into completely new beings, but in order to bring balance to the ecosystems, the Unown needed help.

Some entity had to coordinate them; thus, Arceus created the Unown King, whose instructions would eventually bring life to the species that we know to this day. For some reason, however, the Unown King is said to have been sealed inside a temple, which is simply referred to as the Temple of the Unown King. It’s unclear why, because its story was never written… or was it?

Apparently, the temple itself is home to inscriptions that allegedly tell the rest of the story, but unfortunately, nobody has been able to read them. Will you be the first to decipher them and learn the truth? Find all the Unown scattered inside (and outside!) the Temple of the Unown King and find out what those inscriptions say with their help! Of course, you’ll need to win some battles to find them all. What will happen afterward?

Features

  • This ROM hack might appear grindy at first glance. Depending on how you approach it, it can be as well as not. I promise, the cheese factor is high
  • After obtaining each HM, the corresponding move can be used outside of battle even if a Pokémon hasn’t learned it, as long as it CAN learn it
  • Some bosses, instead of Trainers with teams, consist in a single Pokémon with a thick health bar
  • The overworld is pretty obviously inspired from the Gen 5 games
  • Almost the entire soundtrack is remixed from Final Fantasy VIII
  • Reading what NPCs have to say can save your behind, particularly in the early game
  • There are about 100 obtainable Pokémon, all but a couple from generations 1 through 5.

Known Bugs

  • If a wild Pokémon’s item is stolen with Thief and the Pokémon is then caught, the Pokémon will have another one of the same item after being caught, allowing to obtain two of the same item for the price of one.
  • If an enemy Pokémon with the ability Illusion (which isn’t found in game) or Unknown (dangerous spoiler territory) transforms back into its species and faints, the sliding down effect won’t look correct because some portion of it will still be visible after sinking.
  • Using Dive outside of battle may lower the background music’s volume until the music changes, e.g. a battle occours or the player dismounts.
  • The audio’s ear-rape factor increases slightly over time, albeit not too much. This however was only experienced sometimes after speeding up emulation multiple times.
  • On mGBA, after idling for about a minute without entrying any input, square waves may become almost silent for a while, then sound correct again.
  • Wild Carbink always show a Poké Ball in their health box, even though it should only appear after catching one.
  • Playing after defeating the final boss, if a battle against a Trainer is lost, the player will not white out and can keep playing with a 0 HP party (only in v1.0.0).
  • While viewing a Pokémon’s moves from the summary screen, pressing START opens the Move Reminder menu, which should only be accessible from an NPC (only in v1.0.0).
  • Pillars’ base metatiles use tiles that are horizontally flipped so that the shading looks off (only in v1.0.0).

Changelog

V1.1.0

  • The battles now have a few new backgrounds, taken from Final Fantasy IV Advance, Final Fantasy V Advance, and Final Fantasy VI Advance. I did some significant edits, but the base games are still recognizable.
  • The final boss’s battle sprite is changed and looks more like what I had in mind when I made the original. It was by far the lowest point of the first version’s art.
  • I don’t know of any possible soft lock, but just in case, I added the option to white out from the start menu, with a penalty of some money. I realised that you can catch Pokémon in rooms that are locked behind HMs, but since you don’t need to teach HMs in order to use them outside of battle, as long as one of your Pokémon can learn them, coupled with the ability to swap one of your Pokémon with one just catched, you can swap out the only Pokémon that can learn the HM you need to get out. You could still battle wild Pokémon to run out of PP and HP, but in case I missed some potential soft locks, I added this feature.
  • Finally, I fixed some bugs, typos, and spelling mistakes.
