Description

Have you ever thought something like “Why did GameFreak make Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green, but not Pokemon Water Blue? That’s kinda weird…”? Well, I have, and in response, I made this little improvement hack.

Story

The story is exactly the same as Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green. However, if you have never played those games here it is anyway

Features

  • Blue Protagonist Sprites
  • National Dex from the beginning
  • All Kanto Pokemon are catchable (including impossible evolutions)
  • Changed Title Screen
  • No trade evolutions (they evolve at 37 for Kadabra, Haunter, Machoke, and Graveler or 30 for Onix and Scyther)
  • Miscellaneous Tweaks

  • Players are allowed to run indoors
  • Physical Special Split
  • Lowercase Pokemon names
  • The B2W2 repel system
  • Fastest text (use the “MID” setting for text speed. “FAST” glitches out).
  • Onix and Scyther are both worth using unevolved (stats changed, learnpools improved), prepare for Brock, he will hit hard and be fast
  • Some Gen 2 additions (Sentret at the beginning, Mareep right before Cerulean city, Gligar in the grass West from the poison gym town, starters at the end of the victory road, Lugia and Ho-oH last in-game trades) and Gen 3 (Latios and Latias as well as Beldum in-game trades)
  • All gen 1 starters and all the version exclusives I could remember
  • Improved movepools/stats adjustments for:
  • (a) Gen 1 starters (Charizard is fire/dragon with intimidate IIRC and his shiny and normal colors are swapped, Wartotrle/Blastoise are water/steel with rough skin, Venusaur gains thick fat, they’re all slower because they’re big but they gained bulk and attacking stats)
  • (b) earlygame Pokemon and some Pokemon that had little reasons to be played outside bias (Sandshrew/slash, Nidos are more specialized and have a better learnpool, Rattata/icate, Pidgey/geotto/geot, Vulpix buffed to be less inferior to his dog counterpart and Ninetails’ colours are swapped between shiny and normal, Pikachu has light ball and a more customized learnpool, Raichu got normal typing on top of elektrik, Electabuzz got fighting type and a more decent learnpool, Dratini evolves at 25, Dragonair at 40 and their learnpools fit their new double typing dragon/water, Dragonite keeps the water typing instead of flying, meaning he is only weak to dragon, Gyarados is dragon/water and learns dragon moves and leer is replaced with dragonbreath and he learns mania at 35, Arbok family got buffed to use their mixed attacking moves, Meowth line got much more decent, earlygame bugs have +10 atk, their intermediate forms start with tackle/poison sting instead of harden and the final forms have more fitting stats and learnpools, Rhydon ground/fighting, Marowak ground/ghost …)
  • Many Pokemon have useful abilities instead of the garbage they had in the original game (Ho-oH has drought and Lugia has drizzle)
  • Moves are updated to their 6th gen stats
  • Put more Pokemon in early/midgame grass (Ponyta West of the poison gym, Rhyhorn in Mt Moon)
  • Several level 30+ evolutions happened earlier (Ponyta 26, Muk and his counterpart 33…) and the 2nd stage of trade evos too (Machop at 20, Boulder at 18 and Ghastly at 16 IIRC)
  • No direct trainer change but the changes to Pokemon families innately buff the trainers using them of course (found FR to be one of the most balanced games in terms of challenges)
