Lore
*Formerly known as Pokemon Isles of Mariyama
Millennia in the past, a great catastrophe descended upon our Isles.
During an intense downpour, Mount Koronoa unleashed its fury beneath the moonless night. The volcano erupted, spewing ominous smoke that transformed the rain into a relentless shower of ashfall and acid.
The contamination reached the seas and forests, driving the once serene wildlife into a state of ferocious unpredictability. Even the three revered guardians of our isles succumbed to corruption, engaging in brutal conflicts amongst themselves. Helplessly, our ancestors witnessed their protective winged beings bring unprecedented chaos and destruction to their homelands.
In the darkest hour, a magnificent dragon, ethereal in silver radiance, emerged from the ocean depths. With a resounding roar and a single powerful beat of its colossal wings, a mighty gust swept across the isles, dispelling the malevolent storm and extinguishing its wicked influence. The majestic dragon retreated into the abyss, disappearing without a trace.
Today, we revere this celestial being as Lugia, The Savior of Mariyama.
Story
As a young and aspiring trainer hailing from a distant region, you find yourself bestowed with a unique opportunity—to journey to the tropical Isles of Mariyama! Professor Sheldon Palm, your new mentor, warmly welcomes you as one of his students, inviting you to assist him in conducting field research across the vibrant isles. Your arrival synchronizes with the much-anticipated Silverwing Festival, an annual extravaganza hosted by the Silverwing Order to pay homage to their revered savior, Lugia.
Embarking on an adventure, you traverse the three principal islands of Oranna, Lumine, and Ignea, aiming to challenge their respective gym leaders. Your goal is twofold: securing entry into the prestigious Silverwing Festival Tournament and completing the Pokédex for Professor Palm. However, as you delve deeper into the exploration of the isles, you slowly unravel a mysterious and ominous secret that appears visible only to you.
Now, the responsibility falls squarely on your shoulders to expose this hidden truth and bring it into the light.
Features
Modern Game Engine: IoM uses pokeemerald-expansion as the base game engine, which includes a ton of features from battle upgrades to all Pokémon up to Generation 9!
Unique Graphics: Explore the exotic isles of Marya in a redesigned 3rd generation tileset with custom sprites!
Unique Story: Explore three (one as of alpha v1) different islands, each with brimming personalities, and uncover the truth behind them!
Day/Night System: The time of day can and will greatly alter many things in the world of Marya. Some NPCs may change positions or can only be found during a specific time of day, and the same applies for Pokemon overworld encounters as well! For your convenience, you will always be able to change your in-game time at most Pokemon Centers!
Quest System: Inspired by Pokémon Unbound, there is a quests menu that will keep track of all of the available quests and current todo.
Encouraged Exploration: The isles of Marya have quite a lot to offer, from numerous sidequests, plenty of optional areas, and a plethora of easter eggs and rewards to reward exploration!
Boss Battles: Some Pokémon found in the wild that are stronger than usual and serve as obstacles to your path.
- Difficulty: Our hope is for gameplay to be challenging, but not too tedious or frustrating for the average player. Trainers in the Marya region are no pushovers, and any one of them could be an abrupt end to your journey!
[NEW] In addition, we have implemented soft level caps to prevent the player from overleveling until they reach certain points in the game. Players can still gain experience, albeit at a very slow pace, once at the current level cap, but they can still gain EVs as normal, and use experience-gaining items like Rare Candies or Experience Candies as normal.
Generation 6+ Exp Share is enabled by default to alleviate any tedious grinding that may have been required otherwise.
- General Quality of Life Changes!
Instead of having HM moves, they are locked behind nonessential Key Items you find in the story, and inaccessible areas can be unlocked by using them.
[NEW] We’ve added an auto-run feature so that you don’t have to hold down a button to move at top speed anymore!
[NEW] We’ve added a shiny new B/W style summary screen that will hopefully be much easier to read than the standard vanilla screen!
[NEW] Pokemon Centers are now equipped with a Name Rater, Move Deleter, Move Relearner, and Time Changer for enhanced gameplay efficiency!
[NEW] A town map to give you a general sense of direction of where you’re going!
- Pokémon Changes: In hopes of improving the viability of some Pokemon that normally would not see use at all, we have modified several Pokemon to make them much better candidates for your team (or your opponent’s). Some Pokemon have received much more drastic changes, gaining a shiny new regional form unique to the isles of Marya! Changes to their stats, typing, moveset, abilities, and appearances will be made to some special Pokemon.
The current list of Pokemon buffs can be found
here. It is subject to change greatly in the future as we further balance the game and add more content to it!
Pokémon Regional Forms: Some Pokemon have a shiny new regional form unique to the isles of Marya! Like the list of Pokemon changes, the number of regional Pokemons found here will also increase as we add more! For the time being, we don’t have a detailed list of which Pokemon have received regional forms, so hopefully we’ll surprise you a bit! (You can check our changelog for the specifics if you’d like.)
Known Bugs
- You may see incorrect names of a Pokemon, your experience bar incorrectly displaying how much experience you have, or blank ability boxes when they slide in. This is only a visual glitch.
- WARNING: Due to an unpredictable, unreplicable glitch that may very rarely (you might not even encounter this at all in a playthrough) softlock you when you attempt to interact with an NPC, we still recommend you save your game often. We apologize for any inconvenience that you may face, we are hoping to nail this one down as soon as possible.
- If you ever have any questions or concerns, or have found a bug, please let us know in the Pokecommunity thread!
