The Invaders are a conglomerate of imperial species from an alternate dimension, known only as the "Invader Dimension", that have conquered numerous planets in the past, and plan to do so with Earth.
Their appearances are similar to various types of sea creatures, suggesting their home dimension is full of water, although they seem capable of breathing in Earth's atmosphere, and without water-filled equipment might we add.
At some point the game just caps the difficulty, so you wouldn't get any problems from a kill screen with like "level count" and such a la Pac-Man.
Beyond that I can't imagine there'd be a kill screen aside from maybe screwing things up with an absurdly high score but IF it were to happen in that way it'd have to happen at like 16.7 billion points (the world records out there are well under a million).
There might be an effective kill screen in terms of difficulty a la how the term is used in NES Tetris, but that's highly subjective and the "kill screen" barrier for that title gets broken on a more and more frequent basis.

Space Invaders EX (simply titled Space Invaders in North America) is a Space Invaders title released in 2002 by Activision for the Game Boy Advance. The game features two main gameplay modes. The 1 Player mode is the main gameplay mode, which is an update on the classic Space Invaders formula. The game features four different types of enemies, each with a different color. By defeating four enemies of the same color in a row, you get a single use special weapon. Red enemies drop the straight rocket, which goes through enemies vertically.
Blue and green enemies drop the right and left rockets respectivelly, which make a 90° turn when they hit an enemy, going through the remaining enemies horizontally. Finally, yellow enemies drop the diagonal rocket, which divides itself in two when it hits an enemy then goes through them diagionally. This weapons system would later be expanded upon in Space Invaders Extreme. Classic Mode is a recreation of the original game, though adapted to fit the smaller screen. Additionally, the game featuresn 2-players versus and co-op modes through the GBA Link Cable.
