Description

Pokemon Complete Crystal refreshes Pokémon Crystal by improving 3 core areas without changing vanilla mechanics or storyline. This hack is noticeably more challenging than the vanilla game. However, it is not an explicit “difficulty” hack.

Features

Revamped Movesets

  • All 251 Pokemon have had a re-tool of their level up learnsets to include early game, mid game, and late-game STAB coverage
  • NYPC event moves that were given to select species have been implemented into the level up learnsets. You can now have Growth Eevee, Zap Cannon Squirtle, Ancientpower Bulbasaur, among others!
  • No new moves were added to the game. However, existing moves were corrected to modern, Gen 9+ base power, PP, and accuracy.
  • Some less competitive moves have been repurposed and move distribution has been improved. This is to give a later gen feel without changing the Crystal Engine or deviating from Gen 2 Gameplay. I call these proxy moves. Examples Below:
  • Barrage = Rock Blast| Rock type, 25 Base Power, 95% accuracy
  • Bite = Bug Bite | Bug typing. Power and flinch chance unchanged
  • Cross Chop | distribution expanded to include bipedal users of Close Combat and Superpower
  • Cut = X-Scissor | Bug type, 80 base power, 100% accuracy
  • Egg Bomb = Seed Bomb | Grass type, 80 base power, 100% accuracy
  • Jump Kick | distribution expanded to include some quadrupedal Pokémon (“back kick”)
  • Mach Punch | 60 Base Power – distribution limited to Scizor, Hitmontop, and Hitmonchan. Power increased to account for their later gen abilities
  • Night Shade = Ominous Wind | 60 Base Power, 10% +1 all stats. Distribution is all Shadow Ball users
  • Razor Wind = Hurricane | 110 Base Power, 70% accuracy. Rain Thunder effects
  • Recover = Roost & Slack Off | Distribution increased to include all learners of Roost and Slack Off. Added as a TM (see below)
  • Rock Smash = Brick Break | 75 Base Power, 100% accuracy, 20% chance of lowering defense
  • Roar = Howl | +1 Attack, distribution limited to canines
Skull Bash = Head Smash | Rock type, 150 Base Power, 80% Accuracy, 1/4 Recoil. Distribution limited to Head Smash users and Blastoise
  • Sky Attack = Brave Bird | 120 Base Power, 100% accuracy, 1/4 recoil, no charge up turn
  • Sonicboom = Boomburst | 140 Base Power, 100% accuracy, Dark type. Distribution limited to Dragonite, Pidgeot, and Fearow
  • Thief = Knock Off | 65 Base power, 100% accuracy
  • The TM and tutor list as been overhauled. All TMs can be bought in through a combination of the following Pokemon Marts – Goldenrod (& Celadon), Olivine, Blackthorn, and Indigo Plateau.
  • New TMs (in Order): Dynamicpunch, Razor Wind, Swords Dance, Whirlwind, Night Shade, Toxic, Rock Smash, Body Slam, Headbutt, Double-Edge, Bubblebeam, Ice Punch, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Hyper Beam, Thief, Submission, Counter, Seismic Toss, Iron Tail, Giga Drain, Solarbeam, Dragonbreath, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Earthquake, Thunderpunch, Dig, Psychic, Flamethrower, Mimic, Double Team, Reflect, Fire Punch, Metronome, Sludge Bomb, Egg Bomb, Fire Blast, Swift, Skull Bash, Attract, Protect, Sky Attack, Rest, Thunder Wave, Recover, Explosion, Rock Slide, Return, and Substitute
  • New Tutor Moves: Cross Chop, Curse, Sleep Talk, Hidden Power, Rain Dance, Sunny Day, and Shadow Ball

Full Pokémon Access

  • 249 Pokémon Species are available before the Elite Four. That includes all of Johto, Routes 26 & 27, and Victory Road. Mewtwo and Lugia are now the only Kanto locked species
  • Johto in-game trades have been updated. Player can receive Pikachu (Violet City), Cubone (Goldenrod City), Diglett (Olivine City), and Kangaskhan (Blackthorn City) in Johto
  • Pikachu and Cubone come with species specific items attached. Azumarill and Marill have had Base Attack stat increased to “build in” Huge Power
  • Flee mechanic has been removed
  • All evolution stones can be bought in Goldenrod and Celadon marts
  • All trade evolution Pokémon now evolve via level up or Happiness. No items are needeed for evolution. Information below:
    Level 34: Steelix
Level 38: Machamp, Golem, Scyther, Porygon2
    Level 42: Alakazam, Gengar, Kingdra
    Happiness: Slowking, Politoed
  • 1% encounter rate was largely obnoxious, but has been utilized for some rare legendary Pokémon to be captured. The 1% encounter rate has otherwise been scrubbed for “normal” Pokémon. Legendary and rare Pokémon locations are below:
  • Snorlax – 9999 coins in Goldenrod Game Corner. Kanto Location unchanged
  • Omanyte / Kabuto – 5% encounter rate in caves, only on floors that have water (walking only, not Surf)
  • Raikou / Entei / Suicune – unchanged. No longer flee
Zapdos / Articuno / Moltres – 1% encounter rate, Route 45. Moltres in the morning, Zapdos in the day, Articuno at night
  • Aerodactyl – 4% encounter rate, Route 45
  • Celebi & Mew – 1% encounter rate, Ilex Forest. Celebi in the day, Mew at night. Mew is also post-game in Mt. Silver, Red’s room. Along with Mewtwo.
  • Starter Pokémon – not super rare, use your Pokedex!

Tougher Trainers & Leaders

  • Gym leaders now feature competitively viable movesets with smart coverage moves. Play on ‘SET’ battle mode to get the most competitive feel (default is SHIFT — toggle in OPTIONS).
  • Gym leaders and “bosses” no longer carry items
  • Gym leaders no longer have illegal Pokémon (level 9 Pidgeotto), illegal movesets, or duplicated Pokémon. No more 3 Dragonair Clair or 3 Dragonite Lance
  • The “Ace Pokemon” is the trainer’s signature Pokemon, and will be higher level than the rest of their Party. It is the “final boss”
  • Some Gym leaders have heavily anime-inspired teams!

What Stays the Same

  • Stat Experience
  • No Physical/Special split
  • All Pokémon keep same typing
  • Base Stats untouched except for Pokémon with later Gen buffs (i.e. Pidgeot’s speed increased from 91 to 101)
  • No new Pokémon
  • No new trainers
  • Trainer AI
