Pokemon Yellow 97+ ROM

Pokemon Yellow 97+ rom
When focusing on the main objectives, Pokemon Yellow 97+ is about 20 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 35 Hours to obtain 100% completion.

Pokemon Yellow 97+ is a Gameboy ROM Hack by Cremason based on Pokemon Yellow. Welcome to Pokémon 97+. The "97" comes from those cool Spaceworld '97 backsprites I've added, and the "+" is because this is my take on a "vanilla-plus" experience. I didn't want to stray too far from what makes Yellow special—it's still gotta feel like the game we all know and love, just with some extra flavor.

You can download the Pokemon Yellow 97+ rom from this page and to play the game you need to download the Visualboy Advance Emulator here.

Description

Welcome to Pokémon 97+. The “97” comes from those cool Spaceworld ’97 backsprites I’ve added, and the “+” is because this is my take on a “vanilla-plus” experience. I didn’t want to stray too far from what makes Yellow special—it’s still gotta feel like the game we all know and love, just with some extra flavor.

Features

  • Tons of manga-inspired graphic tweaks and those sweet Spaceworld ’97 backsprites.
  • Fixed some Pokémon palettes—like Eevee’s now brown instead of green (what was up with that?).
  • You can pick a girl trainer based on Green from the manga.
  • Blue and Green’s sprites got a glow-up, and Red’s front and backsprites got a little love too.
  • New Oak frontsprite, plus a post-Hall of Fame battle with a manga-inspired team.
  • Mew’s hanging out in Pokémon Mansion now.
  • Gym leaders got slight team tweaks (manga vibes), including an Armored Mewtwo on Giovanni’s squad,
  • Team Rocket’s roster’s less repetitive—swapped some dupes for Tauros and Pinsir.
  • Jessie and James pick up a Lickitung late-game.
  • Pikachu can learn Surf and evolve into Raichu now—oh, and Raichu can follow you too!
  • Updated Blue sprite for the Pokémon Tower battle, with tweaked dialogue.
  • Crystal Onix and a new Brock fight in “Crystal Cavern.”
  • Second battles with Brock and Misty! Brock’s in Crystal Cavern, and Misty’s date gets crashed at Saffron Diner (Gold/Silver style—her Starmie’s ready for revenge)
  • Pink Butterfree obtainable through trading on the ss anne and then trading back in Saffron Diner.
  • Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, And all FInal Evolutions will now follow you!
  • Mewtwo Side Event! – starts with dragonite delivering an invite after Fuchsia Gym and leading you to find a missing nurse joy and find new island. (This is a WIP because i have yet to connect the invite to cinnabar island but its cool none the less)
  • NEW Evening Mechanic! when you talk to the old man In his isolated house in cerulean city you can turn the routes to sunset and really look for those rare pokemon found only in blue and red versions.

How’s This Different from the Old Version?

This used to be called Pokémon Yellow 98, and I also had a version tied to Smithplays’ Legacy hack. That was more about blending updated graphics with a legacy feel, but 97+ is my own thing—a tighter, closer-to-vanilla take. It’s got cut content like Mew and the Oak fight, plus small gym team changes that fit the manga. It’s a different vibe—familiar but fresh.

Known Issues

  • Some Pokémon remain following even when fainted
  • Report of Pikachu playing the same sound regardless of happiness
  • 1 report of someone going to get Oak’s parcel and it not triggering when you get back to oak. If this happens to you please report it in the Discord or dm me. The solution in this case was to restart and it seemed to fix the issue.
  • Bulbasaur has Venasaur’s overworld sprite currently
  • New Song plays on route 21 constantly when it should only be during the storm
  • Some Pronouns are not capitalized as they should be
  • Dragonite’s text needs refinement
  • Dragonite hides a little longer than intended before delivery

Changelog

V1.4.7

  • Small bugfixes
  • Fixed the PROF OAK AIDE’s placement in Viridian City and moved the fishing guru back.

V1.4.6

  • Fix for refreshing NPC sprites on map transitions.

V1.4.5

  • Old Rod temporarily moved to Pallet Town The Vermilion fisherman and guru have swapped places. This might not be final — feedback is welcome, and I’ll run a poll during this update. Dialogue will likely change if we keep this setup.
  • Bulbasaur Battle added Battle Bulbasaur in the back entrance of Viridian Gym. This entrance will be locked in a future update once the gym officially reopens. Battle is available only after earning the Boulder Badge. Note: The aide does not currently react when you get Bulbasaur.
  • Charmander event added On Route 4 (after Mt. Moon), there’s a new house with Nurse Joy outside. She gives you Charmander only after earning the Cascade Badge from Misty.
  • Damian appears on Route 24 He brags about abandoning Charmander. Now you can finally give him the justice he deserves!
  • SS Anne Returns trigger updated The sailor that blocks your path post-League AND oak battle has untested changes. You now must walk past him, not just talk. If he doesn’t move, it’s an easy wall bypass. Please DM if you run into trouble. He’ll be fully replaced in the next update for a cleaner experience.
  • Move Deleter added Located in a new house on Route 15 (above the ledge near the Rage TM). I don’t like permanent HMs, so he’s here to help. No move relearner — I still want some challenge left in the game.
  • Sprite tweaks Minor visual cleanups, especially for Agatha.
  • Major bug fix: Event overlap Fixed a serious bug caused by having two overlapping event files. These have now been merged to prevent future issues. Thanks to everyone who reports bugs — I truly appreciate it. Every report helps, especially since time spent testing is time away from coding!
