Installing VisualBoyAdvance on Android Devices
Our mobile devices are one of the best ways to enjoy Game Boy Advance games with it’s portability and long battery life, making it a popular choice among Gamers worldwide. And, with the help of a front-end emulator such as RetroArch, we can install VisualBoyAdvance on our Android devices in just a few clicks and fully enjoy the perks of the best GBA emulator.
This page is dedicated to assist users wanting to download, install and set up VisualBoyAdvance, the Game Boy Advance emulator on their Android device.
Requirements
- RetroArch APK
- Android Version 8+
- VisualBoyAdvance-M Core (within RetroArch)
Setup
For Visual Boy Advance to properly work on Android you need to download RetroArch directly from their website. (NOT THE PLAY STORE VERSION)
After the install, open Retroarch and you’ll be presented with the main menu. Now we need to load cores onto our Android device. These are console emulators which have been adapted to work as plugins through Retroarch and can be downloaded directly through the app.
To do this: select “Load Core” then “Download a Core” followed by entering ‘VBA-M’ in the search field. Lastly, click on ‘Nintendo Game Boy Advance (VBA-M)’ to install the VisualBoyAdvance Core.
Now that we have successfully installed Visual Boy Advance (GBA Emulator) on Android, we should start downloading some GBA ROMs to play all our favorite GameBoy games.
How to load ROMs
To load Game Boy ROMs on android, click on Load Content and locate your downloaded ROM to open the GBA file.
If you are unsure where the file downloaded on your mobile device, click on “Start Directory” and select “/“. Now find “sdcard” and click on “Download“. Now open the downloaded GBA ROM archive and click on “Load Archive” to launch the game.
For easy usage, all controls are visible on your mobile screen and to quit your current game and load a different game, simply click on the RetroArch logo and repeat previous steps.
